Weekend experiences

What a quiet weekend, however still managed to leave the house – mainly (and firstly) to try to get my hair coloured – this is the dodgiest thing to attempt in London. I don’t think you need a licence (or a brain) to be a hairdresser here – and just by paying more doesn’t mean you can leave all your confidence in the person wielding that little flat paintbrush’ hands! The first time I went to the hairdresser was a bit of a rush. It was a couple of days before New Year and was becoming a necessity after the last top up on 22 November 2005. She didn’t charge a lot, didn’t speak much English, but was close to home, smiled (quite rare in itself) and they open late.

The first thing I have noticed is my sarcastic response to ‘what colour I would like to choose?’ (after I have already said I want it to match the ends) ie ‘YOU’RE THE HAIRDRESSER – you tell me!!’; the technique of combing the colour through the hair (maybe it goes further when you put it through the hair that is already coloured appropriately?); that slapping it on the 2 bands of newest hair and previously touched up hair, which are obviously different colours you now have, is not going to blend the 2 together harmoniously (that’s just chemistry wkw) and that leaving it for 35 minutes even though its normally 55 (hey Carly!? Ps I missssss you :)) is not long enough and its going to make it brassy!
Anyway, I will talk no more about this as it brings a tear to my blue eyes which now have a different hue because of the gold reflections from my hair! I will from now on, get a trusty friend to do my colour - using my non hairdresser, but logically minded brain!
The upside of this callous abuse is that a bit of a shop will always wipe the nightmare away. Rez and I headed for the supermarket, but got on the bus heading in the opposite direction. Unfortunately the bus terminated at the local shopping centre and for us to stay on the bus would have resulted in a loss of about 2 hrs waiting on the freeway behind 1million other brits leaving to arrive at other destinations. Spent *2 hrs (*this is only an approximation) in New look. We had to go to the change room *5 times because of the weird fitting system in UK, but more specifically here. You think you are one size, but everything you have picked of the rack is totally the wrong size, only after you try it do you realise; If you take an UK *8 (Aus *10/US *12) into a change room – you would think, hmm, maybe that will be too small – wrong. There is no power of deduction that will assist with estimating your size! You could be an 8 in one item and an 18 in another! I just thing they want you to go back to the rack so you find another 10 things you like on the way! Anyhow, my buy of the day was a hypercolour Aztec cropped jumper that is eva so cool (reeeaaaaally it is!)

Stayed at home both Friday and Sunday night, so when Jerome invited me to the New Inn to watch the footy on Sunday afternoon, I knew I deserved it! It was an early start of around 1 pm, (but what’s new when you have been to the Grand once or twice) but things were pretty cruisey and as always, we all had a good laugh. Claire and Steve left early, and that left Pete, Jerome and I to fend for ourselves. (insert evil laugh)
We thought we would head (for old times sake) to the Spinning Wheel. There were few there, but along the way we conned Sandra to meet us for a dance - with a quick stop along the way to see Jerome’s new pad. (Not sure exactly why we went there – other than to see it..?) It was loverly by the way! Funnily enough it was about 1 metre from the Spinning Wheel and .1 of a metre from the Plough where Pete, Dermot and I waited on a cold English night for Rez  - many moons ago.
After meeting Sandra, we headed for the dance we promised – but where to in the western suburbs of London? Ahhh! The Redback! Well, we danced for 96% of the time we were there. It was only when we left that my ankle gave way and I was laid up in bed for the next two days!
