Dramas!

So, I have been here for close to a year, and the 2 things I am defending about Adelaide life are 1. Adelaide is the only state that is NOT an english convict colony:

South Australia and West Australia were initially colonies for free settlers. However, economic problems forced Western Australia to receive convicts from 1850 to 1868.(from some random site)

2. Adelaide is nice and is not the murder capital of the world ...


Britain's Channel 4 had apologised for calling Adelaide the murder capital of the world in a documentary about the disappearance of English tourist Peter Falconio, a South Australian MP said today.
The reference to the SA capital came in the report, The Trials of Joanne Lees, screened on British television on July 18.
It also named Australia as the most dangerous place for serious assaults.
The comments raised immediate objections from independent MP Nick Xenophon, the state opposition and Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith.
They all wrote to Channel 4 demanding a retraction and an apology.
To support his argument to the station Mr Xenophon this week released police figures which showed Adelaide's murder rate over the past decade was 1.9 per 100,000 people, well below the rate of 18.2 for Moscow, 27.47 for Pretoria and 50.82 for Washington.

It was even below the 2.36 per 100,000 recorded in London from 1997 to 1999.
